
In view of the onset of the Monsoon season, there may be possibilities of heavy rainfall, lightning, thunderstorms, hailstorms and landslides in vulnerable areas. All District Officers of variousdepartments are advised to remain alert and prepared to respond to any emergency situation and to instruct field officials to ensure readiness with necessary equipment and manpower to effectively handle any situation. The public is also advised to take necessary precautions, stay updated with weather advisories and adhere to safety guidelines during rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning.
The public is urged to take all necessary precautions and stay updated with official weather advisories. During rainfall, thunder and lightning, residents are advised to seek shelter indoors in a sturdy building or a hard-topped vehicle with windows closed, and to avoid small structures such as sheds, isolated trees and tents.
People should stay away from wired electronics and appliances including telephones unless cordless or mobile, unplug electronic devices and avoid electric poles, fallen power lines and damaged wires, which should be reported immediately to the concerned authority. Citizens are also hereby cautioned to stay away from water bodies and avoid swimming, keep away from elevated areas such as hilltops and open fields and maintain distance from tall objects like trees, poles and towers.
If caught outdoors without shelter, individuals should crouch low with feet together and hands over ears and not lie flat on the ground. One should avoid open spaces where one may become the tallest object. One should also keep windows and doors closed, should not leanon concrete walls or floors, must avoid the use of corded phones and refrain from carrying or being in contact with metal objects such as umbrellas and bicycles and it is suggested that raincoats be used instead.
