
A review meeting of the General Administration Department (GAD) was convened by Shri. Sosthenes Sohtun, the Hon’ble Minister-in-Charge, General Administration Department, on 5th May, 2026 at the State Guest House, Taraghar, Shillong.
The meeting was attended by the Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, General Administration Department; the Additional Resident Commissioner, Meghalaya House, New Delhi; the Additional Resident Commissioner, Meghalaya House, Mumbai; the Joint Secretary, General Administration Department; the Additional Resident Commissioner, Meghalaya House, Kolkata; the Officer on Special Duty, Meghalaya House, Guwahati; the Chief Engineer, PWD (Building); the Deputy Secretary, General Administration (A) Department; the Senior Financial Adviser, General Administration Department; the Director of Sainik Welfare; the Estate Officer, General Administration along with the staff of General Administration (A) and General Administration (B) Departments.
The meeting was convened with the objective of reviewing the functioning and progress of the General Administration Department and its associated offices, while also strengthening coordination important the various Meghalaya Houses located across the country. The review served as an Important platform for assessing ongoing initiatives, identifying administrative and infrastructural challenges, and formulating practical measures for effective implementation and timely completion of pending works.
During the meeting, detailed discussions and reviews were held on the general functions and activities of General Administration (A) and General Administration (B) Departments respectively; the functioning of Meghalaya Houses, including overview of ongoing and pending projects, issues faced, proposed solutions, and future course of action; work pertaining to Aadhaar operations.
The Hon’ble Minister reviewed the progress of various activities and projects undertaken by the Department and emphasised the need for effective coordination, timely completion of pending works, and improved administrative efficiency in the functioning of the Department and Meghalaya Houses across the country.
The meeting also deliberated on measures for strengthening Aadhaar-related operations and ensuring better service delivery to the public.
Special emphasis was also laid on strengthening the functioning of Meghalaya Houses in different cities so as to provide better support and facilities to citizens, students, officials, and visitors from Meghalaya.
