A regional camp was held on the 15th of May 2026 at Rongjeng, in the East Garo Hills District, organized by the Sub Division Office (Civil) Rongjeng Sub Division in collaboration with the Meghalaya State Food Commis-sion, with the objective of enhancing Food Security.
Shri D. P. Wahlang, IAS(Retd.). the Chairman of the Meghalaya State Food Commission honoured the event as Chief Guest accompanied by Dr. M. Tyngkan, Member of the Commission, Deputy Commissioner, East Garo Hills District, Senior Officers and Shri. I. W. Ingty, IAS(Retd.), Member Secretary, who were present on the dais.
In his address, Wahlang emphasized the crucial role of the Meghalaya State Food Commission in overseeing the implementation of food security schemes across various departments. This encompasses the Food & Civil Supplies which administers the Public Distribution System (PDS), the Education Department which supervis-es the PMPOSHAN scheme, and the Social Welfare Department responsible for Anganwadi Centres.
Wahlang remarked that “the role of the State Food Commission is to ensure no one in the state experiences starvation or goes without food”.
In his address regarding grievance redressal related to food security scheme, he encouraged beneficiaries to approach the Meghalaya State Food Commission if their issues remain unresolved at different levels, assuring that the Commission is prepared to step in and ensure that no eligible beneficiary is left without food.
A concise presentation was also delivered by the officials from the Social Welfare Department concerning ICDS, the Education Department on PMPOSHAN and Madam Dina Sangma the ADC of East Garo Hills District who discussed the Public Distribution System. Other officials also delivered speeches on the Food Security Act a sustainable initiative aimed for achieving zero hunger.
