The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), West Jaintia Hills District, successfully organized a One-Day Orientation/Refresher Training Programme for Paralegal Volunteers on 22nd May 2026 at the Conference Hall, District & Sessions Court, Khliehtyrshi.

The programme was inaugurated by Shri N. A. Khan, District & Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, DLSA, West Jaintia Hills District.

The programme aimed at enhancing and updating the knowledge of paralegal volunteers and strengthening their role in providing legal aid and spreading legal awareness among the public.

The training sessions were conducted by distinguished resource persons including Smti D. G. Kharshiing, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, DLSA, Smti M. L. Suchiang, Shri F. B. Passah, and Smti S. M. Saioo, Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsels.

During the programme, various important topics were covered, including the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, roles and responsibilities of paralegal volunteers, free legal aid services, Lok Adalat, and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms. Sessions also focused on laws relating to women and children, including the Domestic Violence Act, Juvenile Justice Act, and POCSO Act.

As part of the programme, a review of the “Back to School Campaign” was also conducted, where the role of paralegal volunteers in identifying school dropouts and encouraging re-enrollment was discussed.

A total of 89 Paralegal Volunteers were awarded completion certificates upon successful participation in the training programme.

The resource persons shared valuable insights and practical knowledge with the participants. An interactive session was also held, allowing participants to engage actively and clarify their doubts.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation and reflects the continued efforts of the District Legal Services Authority in promoting access to justice and strengthening grassroots legal services.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing appreciation to all resource persons and participants for their active cooperation.
