The second Block Level Chief Minister’s Youth Engagement Programme (CM-YEP), organized by the office of the District Sports Officer (DSO), East Jaintia Hills District, in collaboration with the office of the Block Development Officer, Lumshnong C&RD Block, commence on September 8, at Lumshnong Community Hall for students and youth under Lumshnong C&RD Block. The two-day programme was organized under the theme “Young Meghalaya, Shaping Tomorrow”, with enthusiastic participation from students and youth representing various educational institutions with in the block.
The programme aims to provide a platform for young people to showcase their talents, develop their skills and participate in activities that promote creativity, teamwork, confidence and leadership. The Programme was attended by Narpuh MDC, Smt D Tongper, in the presence of the BDO, Lumshnong M Kyndait, DSO, East Jaintia Hills District, Smt S M Rapsang, sports officials, teachers and students from different schools.
Speaking during the programme, Narpuh MDC Tongper highlighted the importance of providing students with platforms to showcase their diverse talents and encouraged them to make full use of such opportunities to develop their skills. She noted that participation in competitions could help students progress from the local level to district, state and national platforms, while emphasizing that artistic and cultural achievements should go hand in hand with academic excellence.
She further encouraged the students to remain resilient in facing challenges and setbacks, stressing that hard work, dedicated preparation and perseverance are essential for personal growth and future success. She also emphasized the importance of faith and integrity as strong foundations for building a meaningful and successful future, urging the students to remain committed to their goals while maintaining good values and character.
The opening day featured a variety of cultural and sporting activities, including folk song, folk dance, solo flute, solo guitar, talent show and tug-of-war competitions. The activities provided an opportunity for the participants to showcase their talents and skills while fostering a spirit of teamwork and healthy competition among the youth.
The programme will continue on September 9, with several more competitions and activities lined up for the participating students and youth.
It is worth mentioning that the Chief Minister’s Youth Engagement Programme (CM-YEP), aims to encourage young people to actively participate in constructive activities while providing them with a platform to express their talents, ideas and aspirations and contribute meaningfully to the community.
