The Office of the District School Education Officer, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat, organised an Awareness Programme-cum-Rally at Rangad Village, East Jaintia Hills District, as part of the fortnight Literacy under the ULLAS (Understanding of Lifelong Learning for All in Society) Project.
The programme was organised with the objective of creating greater awareness about literacy, lifelong learning and the importance of education among the community. The initiative also sought to encourage greater participation in literacy-related activities and promote the vision of an inclusive and educated society.
The programme was attended by District School Education Officer, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri R. Diengdoh, Block Mission Coordinator, Shri O. Sumer, Special Educator, Shri S. Kamar, other officials, Headman of Rangad Village, teachers, students and community members.
During the programme, District School Education Officer, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri R. Diengdoh spoke on the importance of education and emphasised that learning is not limited by age. He stated that education is equally important for elders and that every individual should be given an opportunity to learn, regardless of their age or background. He further highlighted that the awareness rally was not merely a means of promoting literacy, but also a platform to encourage people to learn from and educate one another. He stressed the importance of collective participation in ensuring that no one is left behind in the pursuit of education and lifelong learning.
Special Educator, Shri S. Kamar, explained in detail the objectives and benefits of the ULLAS initiative and highlighted its importance in promoting literacy and lifelong learning. He encouraged the members to actively participate, enrol themselves, and make full use of the opportunities provided under the programme.
The programme commenced with a rally followed by an awareness program in which students, teachers and officials from Education Department actively took part in spreading the message of literacy and lifelong learning. The rally highlighted the importance of education and encouraged community members to support efforts towards achieving universal literacy.
During the programme, books and other learning materials were distributed to the villagers to support and encourage learning, particularly among adult learners, and to promote the importance of lifelong education.
The programme witnessed the participation of officials, teachers, learners, students and members of the local community, who joined together to promote the objectives of the ULLAS Project and strengthen the collective commitment towards literacy and lifelong learning.
