District Magistrate, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri Manish Kumar, IAS, has prohibited the holding of bulls’ fights and animal fights across the entire East Jaintia Hills District under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

The order follows reports of the rampant holding of bulls’ fights and animal fights, particularly during fetes and other festivals in some areas of the district. Accordingly, the District Magistrate, exercising powers under Section 163 of the BNSS, has prohibited bulls’ fights and animals’ fights throughout East Jaintia Hills District. Any violation of the order will be dealt with strictly as per the applicable legal provisions.

The order was issued on August 24, 2026, and, in view of the urgency of the matter, was passed ex-parte. It has come into force with immediate effect and will remain in force until further orders.
