The Hynniewtrep Nationala Youth Front (HNYF), strongly supports the KSU in demanding the immediate implementation of MRSSA, an Act which is long overdue to be implemented. “We would like to remind the public that in the year 2013 government of Meghalaya has directed the police department to identify areas to be set up as Entry and Exit point, in which the police department during S K Jain as DGP has identified 31 locations as entry and exit point throughout the State. As NGOs we were even beguiled that the government is proceeding with the entire process of land acquisition for Entry Exit points. With the takeover of the NCP led government review meetings was held in which the MDA government has shown to have the same commitment”.
Consequently the MDA government, during COVID has with much fanfare, erected the first Entry- Exit point at Umling Ri-Bhoi District with a twist that it is also a Covid testing center, which now it evolved into a food court.
It is to note that the Umling Entry- Exit point as mandated by MRSSA metamorphosed into the Covid testing center and now into a food court. This is a big lie to the people of the state who demands the implementation of MRSSA, who demands the implementation of ILP and the a government went back on its own Assembly Resolution on the implementation , Entry-Exit point is the first step towards ILP and MRSSA implementations.
Secondly, the government has toyed around with the implementation of the other provisions of the MRSSA from the establishment of anti- influx Mechanism like District Task Force, the Entry-Exit counters, the compulsory registration of people entering the state and people needing Houses to rent and other such issues addressed in the MRSSA.
The government is able to stage this drama of non- implementation of MRSSA only on the false argument that the principal Act is under Amendment.
On these aspects the HNYF strongly supports the agitation steps taken by the KSU and blames for government for igniting the fire because the government is playing with the sentiment of the people of the state and kept on lying to the people and the NGOs on these issues.
