The Jaintia Students Union Central Body strongly Condemns the Arrest of Khasi Students’ Union Office Bearers and Demands Investigation into Those Who Exploited the Rally.
The Jaintia Students’ Union Central Body strongly condemns the Government decision to arrest the leaders of the KSU.
The conduct in which the police took to arrest the protesters is as though they were portrayed as terrorists, which is seen in the police’s resort to tear gas, which caused distress among the residents of Jaiaw.
It has been noted that time and again whenever there have been agitations by student and civil society organisations, certain individuals have taken advantage of the situation and attempted to tarnish the image of such agitations and protest and
this is not the first time such incidents have occurred during a KSU agitation.
The Government’s failure to take into account of the KSU’s demands and consider its Five-point charter of concerns is also strongly questioned.
One such demand is the immediate cancellation of the public hearing concerning Shree Cement Ltd.
The Government has repeatedly violated the rules and procedures Governing the conduct of this public hearing, and the entire state has witnessed the force used by the MDA 2.0 Government in this regard.
Questions must also be raised regarding the MDA 2.0 government’s selective enforcement of the law.
“What action has been taken on the FIR filed by the JSU in regards to the assault on the Union ambulance vehicle and the Ambulance Driver.?
What action has been taken against the misuse of authority by the MSPCB, DC, and SP of East Jaintia Hills district respectively.
To this day, the government has remained silent on these matters, raising a serious question:
Is the MDA 2.0 government making laws only to violate them at its own convenience, turning a blind eye to matters that serve its own interests?”
This press release was issued jointly by the President Jersom Shylla and General Secretary Neilkee Mukhim of the Union.
