A Special POCSO Court in Shillong has convicted a man in connection with a 2015 child sexual assault case and sentenced him to three years’ imprisonment along with a fine of ₹20,000.
According to a press release issued by the Office of the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, an FIR was registered at Madanrting Police Station on September 28, 2015, after a complaint alleged that Abdul Khudus had sexually assaulted his seven-year-old granddaughter. A case was registered under Section 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) read with Section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Following the investigation, the accused was arrested and a chargesheet was filed on April 9, 2016.
On July 28, 2026, the Court of the Special Judge (POCSO), East Khasi Hills, convicted Abdul Khudus under Section 8 of the POCSO Act and Section 506 Part I of the IPC.
The court sentenced the convict to three years’ rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹20,000 for the offence under the POCSO Act. In default of payment of the fine, he will have to undergo an additional six months’ imprisonment. He was also sentenced to two years’ imprisonment under Section 506 Part I of the IPC.
As the convict has already undergone two months and one day in custody, he will serve the remaining sentence of two years, nine months and 29 days in jail.
