The Office of the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong, has informed that Shri Stephan Khongtim has been convicted and sentenced to rigorous imprisonment in connection with a stabbing case registered at Sohra Police Station.
According to the police, an FIR was received at Sohra Police Station on March 21, 2023, regarding an incident that occurred on February 24, 2023, in which Stephan Khongtim allegedly stabbed the complainant in the stomach. A case, Sohra P.S. Case No. 08(03)2023 under Sections 307/326 of the IPC, was subsequently registered.
The case was investigated and Stephan Khongtim was arrested. Upon completion of the investigation, the Investigating Officer filed the charge sheet, C.S. No. 03/2023 dated April 28, 2023, under Sections 307/326 IPC.
On July 29, 2026, the Hon’ble Court of Shri B. Laitmon, Addl. D.C. (Judicial), East Khasi Hills, Shillong, through its Judgment/Court Order dated July 29, 2026, convicted Stephan Khongtim in Session Case No. 19(T)2023 / Sohra P.S. Case No. 08(03)2023 under Sections 307/326 IPC.
For the offence under Section 307 IPC, the accused was sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs. 20,000. In default of payment of the fine, he will undergo a further two months of simple imprisonment.
For the offence under Section 326 IPC, he was sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs. 5,000. In default of payment of this fine, he will undergo a further one month of simple imprisonment.
The court noted that the convict had already undergone two years, five months and 16 days of imprisonment. The police release states that he shall therefore serve the remaining sentence of two years, one month and 20 days in jail.
