Members and representatives of the Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MSCPCR) represented the State of Meghalaya at the two-day North East Regional Convention on Child Rights, held at Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, on 31st July and 1st August, 2026.
The Regional Convention was the first of its kind and was hosted by the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights. It brought together representatives from various State Commissions across the North Eastern Region, including Sikkim, to deliberate on pressing child rights issues and to chart the future of regional cooperation and collaboration among the Commissions for better coordination in the protection and promotion of child rights.
The Convention was inaugurated by Shri Pema Khandu, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh. It concluded with the adoption of the Tawang Declaration on Child Rights, which was ratified by the Chairpersons and representatives of the participating State Commissions. The Declaration reaffirms the commitment of all stakeholders to inter-state collaboration and
coordination, towards ensuring that children across the North Eastern Region are seen, heard and empowered, and that their rights are safeguarded.
The Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights welcomes the outcomes of the Convention and reaffirms its commitment to working alongside its counterparts across the North Eastern Region to strengthen the protection of children’s rights through sustained collaboration and coordinated action.
