In a bid to ease traffic congestion and improve road discipline, the Shillong Traffic Police (STP) will launch a special enforcement drive titled ‘Operation Free Flow’ to curb haphazard parking across the city.

The initiative comes in response to the growing instances of indiscriminate parking that have been causing traffic congestion, obstructing carriageways, and inconveniencing road users.

To ensure effective implementation of the drive, the Shillong Traffic Police has constituted a dedicated Shillong Traffic Enforcement Team (STET). The team will conduct intensive enforcement against vehicles parked in No Parking zones or in any manner that obstructs the smooth flow of traffic.

According to the police, the enforcement drive will be carried out strictly and impartially. However, exceptions will be made in cases involving genuine emergencies or medical exigencies.

The primary objective of ‘Operation Free Flow’ is not only to enforce traffic regulations but also to encourage responsible parking habits, strengthen traffic discipline, and ensure safer and more efficient roads for all commuters.

Shillong Traffic Police has appealed to the public to extend their cooperation by adhering to traffic rules and promoting responsible parking practices. The police emphasized that disciplined road use and proper parking are essential to reducing congestion and ensuring the free flow of traffic throughout the city.
