
On 27.08.2026 at about 2:10 pm, reliable information was received that four persons from Assam allegedly attempting to sell 3 suspected stolen motorcycles in the Weilor area. Acting promptly on the information, a police team from Mawsynram Police Station proceeded to the area and laid an ambush. During the operation, four persons were noticed with three motorcycles. On seeing the police team, all 4 persons attempted to flee towards the jungle. With the assistance of local villagers, the police team managed to apprehend 3 persons, while one person escaped and could not be traced despite efforts.
The 3 motorcycles (i) Yamaha R15 – AS-01-FV-4193, (ii) Royal Enfield Hunter 350 – AS-25-Z-1346, (iii) Yamaha R15 – AS-27-F-1263 were found without ignition keys and with direct wiring/connection systems in place, raising suspicion that they were stolen vehicles. The apprehended persons and the recovered motorcycles were brought to Mawsynram Police Station for verification and necessary legal action. The apprehended persons have been identified as Nipu Das (25 yrs), Karan Sundi (22 yrs), and Babu Basumatary (26 yrs), all residents of Tampulr, Assam. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the ownership and origin of the recovered motorcycles and identify other persons involved in the suspected vehicle theft network.
