A District Coordination Meeting of the Incident Response Team (IRT), East Khasi Hills District, was held on 8th April, 2026 at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District. The meeting was presided over by Smti. R. M. Kurbah, IAS, Deputy Commissioner & Chairperson (DDMA), East Khasi Hills District. The meeting was attended by Shri S. Warjri, MCS, Additional Deputy Commissioner and CEO (DDMA), along with officials from various line departments, Block Development Officers, Sub Divisional Officer (C) under East Khasi Hills District as well as representatives from the Armed and Paramilitary Forces. The objective of the meeting was to review the preparedness of all departments and to ensure effective coordination in the event of calamities during the monsoon season of 2026.
During the meeting, it was decided that all departments shall undertake pre-monsoon preparedness measures on priority. These include inspection of flood-prone and landslide-prone areas, as well as assessment of vulnerable trees and electricity lines that may collapse or pose risks during strong winds and heavy rainfall.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of conducting regular mock exercises across government offices to strengthen emergency response mechanisms. Additionally, fire safety audits of buildings were highlighted as a critical component of preparedness. All departments were directed to update and maintain an inventory of available resources for effective emergency response.
The Chairperson urged all government officials to remain vigilant and ensure prompt an coordinated response during any disaster situation.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the district administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property through proactive planning and inter-departmental coordination.
