
The office of the District AYUSH Society, West Jaintia Hills celebrated World Homoeopathy Day today at District Library Auditorium, Mynthong, Jowai under the theme, “Homeopathy for Sustainable Health.”
Additional Deputy Commissioner Smt. B.Blah graced the occasion as Chief Guest while Dr. H J Uriah, DNO, (Quality and Patient Safety) WJHs attended as the guest of honour.
In her address, Smt. B Blah appreciated the efforts of healthcare professionals in promoting homoeopathy and delivering affordable healthcare service to the community. She underscored the importance of recognizing the diverse system of medicine, noting that healthcare is not confined to a single approach but includes multiple recognized approaches that collectively contribute to overall health and wellbeing.
She emphasized that the programme was particularly important for students, as it helped enhance awareness about different systems of medicine including homoeopathy and other AYUSH disciplines. She added that while many students may not be fully familiar with homoeopathy and similar systems, such events provide valuable learning opportunities to broaden their understanding.
Smt. Blah further stated that under the AYUSH framework, systems such as Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy are formally recognized and practiced in India. She said each system has its own philosophy and method of treatment and together they contribute to a more holistic and comprehensive approach to healthcare, both treatment and prevention.
She also acknowledged the support and recognition extended by the government to these traditional and alternative systems of medicine. She appreciated the dedication of doctors and practitioners working in these fields.
Dr. Helen, highlighted the importance of maintaining high standards of quality care and ensuring patient safety in healthcare practice. Encouraging criticall thinking among healthcare professionals, she shared the message, “Prove all things, hold fast to what is good,” and urged them to evaluate and apply knowledge in their daily practice, drawing inspiration from the teachings of Dr. Samuel Hahnemann.
Highlighting the contribution of AYUSH service in the district, she stated that a total of 34 AYUSH physicians are currently serving, with majority being from Ayurveda along with partitioners from Yoga and Naturopathy and Homeopathy. She also pointed out that Unani and Siddha systems are presently unavailable in the district
Highlighting the importance of the 5S’ principles-‘Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize and Sustain’ Dr. Helen described them as practical tools for improving efficiency, organization and safety in healthcare settings. She encouraged doctors to adopt these practices to strengthen quality healthcare delivery and promote a culture of patient safety.
Dr. Bonnie T Hinge, DNO, AYUSH department spoke the importance of homeopathy as a holistic system of medicine. She explained that homeopathy is based on the principles of “like cures like” and focuses on treating the patient as a whole rather than merely addressing symptoms.
She added that homeopathy continues to contribute significantly to healthcare by offering safe, gentle and cost-effective treatment options. She also emphasised the need to increase public awareness, promote research and encourage integration of homeopathy with other health care systems.
An essay competition was also organized as part of the programme and prize were distributed to the winners.
