As part of the ensuing statewide Civil Defence Mock Exercise on Air Raid scheduled to be held on 24th April, 2026, the office of the Deputy Controller of Civil Defence, East Jaintia Hills District in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), East Jaintia Hills District will join the other districts in the mock exercise on air raids to be held in Khliehriat Town.
The Mock Exercise will be conducted in two stages with the first stage comprising search and rescue efforts, commencing from 3:00 PM and ending at 4:00 PM while the second stage involving a ‘Blackout’ will commence from 6:59 PM to 7:02 PM.
In the First Stage of the Mock Exercise, the Civil Defence Siren will be sounded at 3:00 PM to signal an Air Raid and the commencement of the Mock Exercise; and later, the siren will be sounded at 4:00 PM to indicate the “All Clear” signal and also the conclusion of the first stage of the Mock Exercise after which demobilization or regrouping of all stakeholders and participants of the exercise will follow.
In the Second Stage, the Civil Defence Siren will be sounded at 7:00 PM in the evening to signal an Air Raid and the commencement of “Blackout”, during which, the general public, including Dorbar Shnongs, Village Elders and others are requested to participate in the Mock Exercise by switching off their lights, inverters and all sources of illuminations as a mock practice of the “Blackout” and for the successful conduct of the simulation.
The “Blackout” will last for two minutes and the public are advised to turn on their lights after the sounding of the second siren at 7:02 PM.
The Mock Exercise will involve the participation of all important stakeholders including the Police, Civil Defence &Home Guards, Fire & Emergency Services, Government Departments including Health, Power, PWD, PHE Departments etc, DDMA, Community Leaders, Volunteers and others.
In East Jaintia Hills District, the identified sites of the Mock Exercise include Jaintia Eastern College (JEC), Khliehriat Presbyterian Higher Secondary School, 1 India Family Mart, Basement of Sanmala, Khliehriat, Khliehriat Civil Hospital, premises of Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Khliehriat, etc.
In this regard, the public are advised to remain calm and not to panic during the conduct of the mock exercise, as it is only a preparedness drill which shall also serve as an important event to create mass awareness on the issue.
