This is to inform all residents of East Jaintia Hills District that the Census of India 2027 will be conducted in a phased manner across the district and as part of the first phase, the Houselisting Operation will be carried out from May 16, 2026 to June 14, 2026.
The Census, conducted under the provisions of the Census Act, 1948 and the Census Rules, 1990 is a vital national exercise aimed at collecting reliable data on population, housing and socio-economic conditions, which serves as the foundation for planning and development programmes.
Under Section 8 of the Census Act, every individual is legally bound to provide truthful information to Census Officers. It further assures that, as per Section 11 of the Act, all information collected will be kept strictly confidential and will not be used as evidence in any civil or criminal proceedings. Additionally, Section 15 of the Act prescribes penalties for refusal to answer questions or for providing false information.
All residents of East Jaintia Hills District are hereby urged to extend full cooperation to Census Enumerators and Supervisors during the houselisting phase and to provide accurate and complete information as required by law. Citizens are also advised to verify the identity cards of Census personnel before sharing any details and to note that their information is fully protected under legal provisions.
Further, all government departments, local bodies, traditional institutions, educational institutions and community leaders are requested to actively support and cooperate in ensuring the successful conduct of this important national exercise.
