
As part of the Golden Jubilee Celebration of Amlarem Sub-Division, an Awareness Programme Cum Health Camp was organised today at Moosakhia Village by the Office of the Sub-Divisional Medical and Health Officer, Amlarem, in collaboration with the Office of the Sub-Divisional Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Officer, Amlarem Sub-Division.
The programme was chaired by Smt. A. Nongjngi (MLHP) while Miss Vevotolu Kezo, Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Amlarem, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and formally inaugurated the programme.
Delivering the inaugural address, the Chief Guest emphasised the importance of bringing government services closer to rural communities through such outreach programmes. She stated that the Awareness Programme Cum Health Camp organised as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Amlarem Sub-Division reflects the administration’s commitment towards improving the health and well-being of the people.
The Chief Guest highlighted that non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and heart-related illnesses are steadily increasing, and according to available data, more than 60 per cent of deaths in India are attributed to non-communicable diseases. She therefore stressed the importance of early screening, preventive healthcare and awareness programmes, and encouraged the villagers to actively participate in such initiatives.
She also noted that cancer cases are rising, and the North-Eastern region records some of the highest incidences of cancer in the country, making early detection and screening essential. The Chief Guest further emphasised the importance of maternal and child healthcare, stating that a healthy mother is essential for a healthy family and future generations. She highlighted that programmes such as antenatal check-ups and maternal health services contribute significantly towards reducing Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) and Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR).
Speaking on rural livelihoods, the Chief Guest also underscored the importance of animal husbandry and livestock management, noting that livestock serves as an important source of income and sustenance for many rural households. She welcomed the inclusion of veterinary awareness activities as part of the programme.
She further urged the headmen and community leaders to encourage maximum participation from villagers, so that the benefits of government services and awareness initiatives reach as many people as possible.

Earlier, Dr Arwin Khonglah, Sub-Divisional Medical and Health Officer, Amlarem, delivered the welcome address, highlighting the objectives of the programme, which aimed to improve public health awareness and access to healthcare services.
In her keynote address, Dr. (Mrs.) Fulfill Rymbai, Sub-Divisional Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Officer, Amlarem, emphasised the importance of animal husbandry for livelihood and informed the gathering about the Vocational Training Centre located at Khlieh Tyrshi, where free training is provided for piggery, poultry, cattle and goat rearing. She encouraged interested villagers to take advantage of the training programmes and government schemes available through the Veterinary Department.
Dr. Damuthimi Lyngdoh, C&RD Block Development Officer, Amlarem, in his speech, encouraged residents of the area to actively participate in such awareness programmes and health camps to benefit from the services provided by the government. During the programme, various health services were provided to the villagers, including antenatal check-ups for pregnant women, paediatric check-ups and treatment by Child Specialist Dr. Bless Sutnga, general medical check-ups, screening for non-communicable diseases, breast cancer screening by the State Cancer Society team, tuberculosis screening and X-Ray by the District TB Team, anaemia screening and testing by the Jarain PHC team, RBSK screening and awareness, adolescent counselling, and Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) registration along with Aadhaar linking.
From the Veterinary Department, an awareness session on livestock diseases was conducted by Dr. (Mrs.) Fulfill Rymbai, Sub-Divisional Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Officer, Amlarem, followed by a veterinary health camp and distribution of medicines and pig feed to beneficiaries.
During the programme, certificates and recognitions were also distributed to health workers and institutions for their outstanding performance in various categories, including Immunization and other public health services, as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Sub-Division.
The programme witnessed the participation of officials from various departments, health workers, village leaders, and residents from Moosakhia and nearby villages, who benefited from the services and awareness activities conducted during the camp. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by I. Najiar, Block Programme Manager.
