In observance ofWorld Blood Donor Day, the office of the Jowai Civil Hospital Blood Centre, Panaliar, West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai honoured dedicated voluntary blood donors for their invaluable contribution to society through voluntary blood donation. The felicitation programme was held at Tpep Pale Community Hall, Jowai on the theme, “One Drop of Humanity, Give Blood. Save Lives.”

Assistant Commissioner Smt. Emelya Ch. Momin attended the programme as the chief guest and lauded the selfless contribution of voluntary blood donors, describing them as the real-life heroes of society whose e noble acts help save countless lives. Referring to the theme, “One Drop of Humanity, Give Blood, Save Lives,” she stated that even a single act of kindness can make a profound difference in the lives of patients and their families. She highlighted every unit of blood donated brings hope and offers a second chance at life for those undergoing surgeries, mothers during childbirth and patients suffering from serious illness and blood disorders.

Emphasizing the continuous need for blood in the hospital, she noted that blood cannot be manufactured and can only be obtained through voluntary donations. She called upon community members, particularly the youth to actively participate in voluntary blood donation. She also expressed gratitude to all voluntary blood donors, the medical department and volunteers for their dedicated service to the society.

She also led the gathering in reading of the voluntary blood donation pledge, encouraging participants to promote awareness and support the cause.

Dr.I Khyriem, Sr. Medical & Health Officer, Incharge JCHBC in her keynote address emphasised the importance of voluntary blood donation in ensuring the availability of safe and quality blood for patients in need.

Highlighting the growing demand for blood transfusion, Dr. Khyriem stated that many patients suffering from chronic illness, including chronic kidney, cancer and various blood disorders, require regular blood transfusion. Since these patients often have weakened immune systems, they are entitled to receive safe, standard quality blood that is readily available whenever required. She noted that the Blood Centre’s primary objective is to ensure that blood is available, accessible and safe at all times.

Dr. Khyriem expressed concern over the decline in voluntary blood donation in the district which has dropped from 29 percent in 2024 to 20 percent in 2025. She called upon government departments, educational institutions, community organisations and youths to organise awareness programmes and blood donation camps to increase voluntary blood donors.

Appreciating the contribution of blood donors, she described voluntary donors as the safest and most reliable source of blood. She also thanked all donors for their generosity and urged people to come forward and support the lifesaving cause of blood donation.

Principal of Thomas Jones Synod College, Jowai Dr. (Mrs) Ailynti Nongbri, highlighted blood donation as a noble act of compassion and service to humanity. She said every blood donor gives the priceless gift of life, often helping people they may never know. Emphasising the message of, “love thy neighbour as thyself,” she encouraged individuals, especially the youth to become ambassadors of voluntary blood donation and contribute to saving lives.

Dr. (Shri.) Job R Kawini, Adventist Youth Ministries and Shri. Cheiniwanki Naingti voluntary blood donors shared their experience and motivated others to come forward for blood donation and contribute to saving lives.

Among those present were Jowai Dalloi Puramon Kynjing, prominent senior citizens, voluntary blood donors, representatives of various organisations and health workers.  

The programme was chaired by Dr.B. Lipon, Anaesthetist, Jowai Civil Hospital Ialong with Smt. Noris Mary Dkhar, Lab Technician, JCHBC delivering the welcome address and the vote of thanks by Smt. Memory Lamin. Staff Nurse.
