The District Election Office (DEO), East Khasi Hills, on Wednesday officially released the Draft Electoral Rolls for the district during a function held at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Shillong.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Abhilash Baranwal, IAS, commended the dedicated efforts of the election machinery, including Booth Level Officers (BLOs), BLO Supervisors, Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), for successfully completing the intensive electoral roll revision exercise within a month.
Baranwal said the exercise, which covered the entire district, was completed with diligence and efficiency while ensuring that electors received the necessary support throughout the process. He noted that although the primary responsibility of BLOs was to distribute and collect forms, many officials went beyond their assigned duties by assisting voters in filling out forms and addressing their concerns.
“The officials personally visited households and spent considerable time guiding electors to ensure that apprehensions and doubts regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process were addressed. Their efforts helped complete the exercise successfully and inspired confidence among the public,” he said.
The District Election Officer also expressed gratitude to all political parties for their cooperation, stating that their support ensured the smooth conduct of the exercise, with only minor issues arising, all of which were resolved promptly through mutual understanding.
He further acknowledged the important role played by Booth Level Agents (BLAs) in assisting both electors and BLOs during the revision process.
Baranwal said the milestone could not have been achieved without the collective cooperation of all stakeholders and thanked everyone for their commitment to the electoral process.
Earlier, the Assistant Systems Engineer presented an overview of the next stages of the electoral roll revision exercise. The DEO urged electors and representatives of political parties to approach BLOs and election officials with any doubts or queries rather than leaving them unresolved, assuring that the entire election machinery remains available to provide clarification and assistance.
The District Election Office expressed confidence that the same level of cooperation from all stakeholders would continue during the forthcoming stages of the electoral roll revision process.
The Draft Electoral Rolls were subsequently handed over to representatives of all political parties for reference. The period for filing claims and objections will commence on August 5 to 4th September, while the final publication of the Electoral Rolls is scheduled for October 7, 2026.
