The 80th Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Jrisalein Playground, Chutwakhu, District Headquarter, Jowai. Hon’ble Speaker Shri. Thomas A Sangma hoisted the National and took the salute of the marching contingents.
A total of 35 contingents, comprising personnel from the District Police Jowai,42 Meghalaya BN NCC, Jowai, and students from 33 schools participated in the celebration.
Prizes were presented to the winning marching contingents, PM Shri School JNV Mukhla, Mukhla secured the first prize, followed by Jaintia Higher Secondary School, Jowai in the second place and Thadlaboh Presbyterian Higher Secondary School, Jowai in the third place.
The other highlights of the day included traditional and patriotic songs and dances.
