The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the East Jaintia Hills Truck Owners Transport Association (EJHTOTA) and the Jaintia Hills Truck Owners Association (JHTOA), n the evening of April 16, issued a press statement in East Jaintia Hills District. They announced an indefinite strike against bulker trucks operating in the district, which are affecting local truck owners and drivers.
EJHTOTA President Kyrshan Dkhar, also JAC Secretary, updated that on decisions from a general meeting held that day at Tuberkmaishnong Tahkhniang on NH-6 in East Jaintia Hills. The meeting followed a request from the district administration, which urged JAC to release bulker trucks that lacked timely notice of the strike, starting April 14, to prevent spoilage of their cement cargo. This would be a one-time allowance.
JAC accepted the request, praising the administration’s cooperation. Dkhar urged members to understand the situation, noting human errors occur, and confirmed both associations approved releasing 10 specific bulker trucks by plate number.
JAC issued a strong warning, if these trucks return, JAC bears no responsibility for consequences. The bulker trucks agreed not to re-enter the district. JAC seeks peace and hopes for mutual understanding.
The strike continues to monitor compliance. Dkhar called on both associations to stay vigilant at strike sites for the benefit of local truck owners carrying cement or other materials. He assured members the decision reflected majority support and urged full responsibility from all.
Finally, JAC warned Star Cement: failure to meet demands will prompt further action.
