
The Directorate of Housing, Government of Meghalaya, formally handed over original documents to district officials today, 10th April 2026, marking a key milestone in the recovery process following the closure of the Meghalaya State Housing Board (MSHB) on August 28, 2024.
The handing-over ceremony was attended by senior officials of the Housing Department, including Shri B.S. Sohliya, IAS, Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Housing Department; Smt. D. Kharbuli, Nodal Officer and Joint Secretary; Govt. of Meghalaya and Smt. M.T. Sangma, MSC, Director of Housing. District Housing Officers, Housing Inspectors, representatives from district offices, and some representative from the erst-while Meghalaya State Housing Board MSHB.
The programme was chaired by Shri D.S. Dkhar, Superintendent and opened with a welcome address by Smt. M.T. Sangma Director of Housing.
Shri B.S. Sohliya, IAS, Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Housing Department, in his keynote on the transfer of Meghalaya State Housing Board (MSHB) loanee documents, called on district offices and exhorted to maintain integrity in documentation, take ownership of loanee records, and pursue recovery with sensitivity and transparency.
Shri B. Khyriem, District Housing Officer, Tura, delivered the vote of thanks on behalf of the department for the occasion. The event concluded with the formal taking over of the original records from the erstwhile MSHB employees who took VRS and handing over by the Director of Housing to the District Housing Offcers /Housing Officers with Smt.D.Kharbuli, Jt.Secretary as the Nodal Officer for the Handing/Taking Over of Documents on behalf of the Department.
The documents handed over include mortgage deeds, receipts, gift deeds, declarations, and land Pattas, which will form the basis for accountable and transparent recovery operations at the district level.
