
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Meghalaya, concluded an intensive search and recovery operation with the retrieval of the body of a missing person from the Wahniangleng River near Phra Mer, Mylliem, at approximately 7:10 AM of 26 July 2026.
The operation was initiated on 22 July 2026 following receipt of information regarding the disappearance of a resident of Phra Mer, Mylliem. SDRF teams, in close coordination with Mawngap Police and local residents of Laitkroh and Phra Mer, carried out extensive searches in the gorges and along the Wahniangleng River, including the use of a Rubber Inflatable Boat (RIB) to cover the river stretch from Mawphlang Dam.
On 23 and 24 July 2026, an extensive search operation from Mawphlang Dam to the Wahniangleng River using a Rubber Inflatable Boat (RIB), covering both upstream and downstream sections was conducted. However, no trace of the missing person was found.
On 25 July 2026, local residents located the body in a confined section of the river. SDRF personnel immediately initiated recovery efforts; however, the operation had to be suspended due to strong water currents and hazardous conditions.
The operation resumed on the morning of 26 July 2026, and at approximately 7:10 AM, the SDRF team successfully retrieved the body. The deceased was subsequently handed over to the Mawngap Police for completion of the necessary legal formalities.
