
The Somnath Swabhiman Parv was celebrated with great devotion and spiritual enthusiasm at the Omkareshwar Shiv Temple located in R.R. Colony, Shillong & Shiv Temple, Babupara, Tura on the 11th May, 2026 in the presence of Dr. B.D.R. Tiwari, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary to the Govt. of Meghalaya and Shri. Naba Bhattacharjee, President, Central Puja Committee. The programme brought together devotees, local residents, community leaders, and members of the temple committee to honour the rich cultural and spiritual heritage associated with the sacred Somnath Temple. Smti. ladashisha Majaw, MCS, Director of Arts & Culture represented the Department of Arts & Culture.
The event commenced with traditional prayers and chanting of Vedic mantras, creating a divine and peaceful atmosphere and brought together devotees, local residents, community leaders, etc. The programme also included live telecast where devotees could see and listen to the Hon’ble Prime Minister addressing the gathering from Somnath.
Overall, as part of Somnath Swabhiman Parv celebration at Omkareshwar Shiv Temple located at R.R. Colony, Shillong & Shiv Mandir, Babupara, Tura was a spiritually uplifting and culturally enriching occasion that strengthened the sense of unity, devotion, and pride among the devotees and local community with the enthusiastic support by President and the entire team of Central Puja Committee, Meghalaya. This was made possible with the technical assistance from NIC, Meghalaya & DDK, Shillong and Tura and the Department of Arts & Culture, Government of Meghalaya, Shillong.
