The Deputy Commissioner & Chairman of the DDMA, West Jaintia Hills District has alerted residents living along the Kopili River and downstream areas that water is being released from the Khandong Dam under the Kopili Hydro Power Station, Umrangso, Assam, following the rise in the reservoir levels due to continuous rainfall over the catchment areas.  

According to information received from the Dam authorities, Gates No.1,4 and 7 of the Khandong Dam were initially opened on 17th June, 2026, releasing approximately 43 Cumec of water into the Kopli River. The gate opening was subsequently increased on 18th June, 2026 resulting in a discharge of approximately 157 Cumec.

Residents residing along the banks of the Kopili River and in downstream areas are advised to remain vigilant and avoid venturing close to the riverbanks, and to keep livestock away from low lying areas as a precautionary measure.
