Amlarem: The 80th Independence Day of the country was celebrated with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm at Amlarem Secondary School today, with Mowkaiaw MLA Shri Nujorki Sungoh as the Chief Guest.
The celebration was attended by officers and staff of the Amlarem Civil Sub-Division, police personnel, students, teachers, community representatives, awardees and members of the public. The programme included the hoisting of the National Flag, singing of Vande Mataram and the National Anthem, followed by the Rashtriya Salute and parade inspection by the Chief Guest. The inclusion of Vande Mataram was significant as the country is observing its 150th year.
Nine contingents from the Meghalaya Police and educational institutions participated in the March Past, along with the Ka Syiem Jingsuk Band. Ka Syiem Jingsuk Higher Secondary School, Amlarem won the 1st Prize, followed by Nongtalang Government Higher Secondary School in 2nd place and Amwi Jarain Secondary School in 3rd place. The participating band also received a Special Certificate of Appreciation.
Addressing the gathering, Sungoh paid tribute to freedom fighters and nation-builders and called upon citizens to uphold unity, discipline, democracy and responsible citizenship. He stressed the need for people-centric and inclusive development, with emphasis on education, healthcare, youth development, employment, agriculture, women’s empowerment and infrastructure.
The programme also featured cultural performances by Nongtalang Government Higher Secondary School, Di Iah Synroplang VO, Amlarem, and Amlarem Secondary School. Awards and certificates were presented to individuals, institutions and community organisations for their contributions to the Sub-Division.
The celebration commemorated India’s freedom while recognising achievements in public service, education, healthcare, women’s empowerment, community participation and youth development.
Khliehriat: The 80th Independence Day of the Nation was celebrated with great enthusiasm, patriotic fervor and colour at a programme organized by the District Administration, East Jaintia Hills District at Holy Family Parish Playground, Khliehriat which witnessed the enthusiastic participation of government officials, students and community members.
During the celebration, Meghalaya Cabinet Minister, Shri Wailadmiki Syllahoisted the Tri Colour and took the Rashtriya Salute of the 36 marching contingents comprising of Meghalaya Police, NCC Cadets, Scouts &Guides and students.
On the occasion, in order to encourage a culture of continuous learning and recognize exceptional commitment towards professional development, the office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District felicitated outstanding learners who have demonstrated exemplary performance on the iGotKarmayogi Platform.These awardees included Junior Rural Development Officer, Wapung C&RD Block, Smti. NisakaDkhar, District Programme Assistant, Swatch Bharat Mission (SBM), Smti. Britney Langstang and four staffs of the office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District which include Shri Juhhi Nonghuloo, Shri Johnyson Enty Shadap,Shri Yoolangki Rymbai and Shri ImmonmeSutnga.
This Year’s Independence Day Celebration also featured the presentation of awards to top-performing Healthcare Institutions and Healthcare Professionals of the district. The Good Samaritan and Humanitarian Award was given to Smti. JinySukhlain of Daistong Village in recognition for her remarkable act of kindness, compassion and humility.
Prizes were also distributed to the winners of the March Past and Cultural items Competitions with Little Star Secondary School, Ladrymbai, Jawahar Novodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Rymbai (Girls) and Oxford Secondary School,Ladrymbai (Girls) winning the 1st, 2ndand 3rdplaces respectively in the March Past Competition while Little Flower Secondary School, Khliehriat, Sacred Heart Secondary School, Byndihati and Holy Trinity Secondary School, Sutngawere respectively adjudged 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners in the Cultural Items Competition.
Shangpung: Hima Shangpung, Laskein C&RD Block celebrated the 80th Independence Day at Hula Playground Moosyiem, Shangpung where Smt. M Ampareen, MLA hoisted the National Flag and took the salute of 18 marching contingents.
Prizes were distributed to the best marching contingents. Lummuro Higher Secondary School took the first prize, followed by Shangpung Presbyterian Higher Secondary School in second place, while Shangpung Higher Secondary School Nongrim, Shnagpung took the third place.
