Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Monday attended the platinum jubilee celebration marking 75 years of RCLP School Kyndong Tuber in West Jaiñtia Hills district.
The event was attended by Brightstarwell Marbaniang MLA of Mawlai constituency, along with the parish priest of St. Joseph Kyndong Tuber, church elders, the village headman, alumni, parents, students and other stakeholders.
Addressing the gathering, Rymbui expressed his privilege in being part of the historic occasion and paid tribute to the founders and contributors of the institution. He raised concerns over student dropout rates in rural areas, attributing them largely to financial constraints, and noted that the government has introduced several financial assistance schemes under the leadership of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to support students. He added that scholarship amounts have been enhanced since 2018 and urged eligible students to avail of the benefits.
Responding to a memorandum submitted by the school managing committee, the minister assured that the issues would be examined with concerned officials to explore possible support, particularly in view of the school’s strength of around 300 students and the need for improved classroom infrastructure. While noting that existing provisions mainly cater to government schools, he said efforts would be made to identify feasible assistance mechanisms.
Rymbui further informed that government schools are being provided with essential infrastructure such as kitchen sheds, toilets and other facilities, adding that the Government LP School of Kyndong Tuber is expected to benefit from these provisions within the year. He also emphasised the importance of unity in driving development and encouraged the school managing committee to continue its efforts, assuring continued government support.
Speaking on the occasion, Brightstarwell Marbaniang expressed gratitude to the founders of the institution, stating that the 75-year milestone stands as a testament to their vision and dedication. He lauded the efforts of the managing committee and teachers in shaping students who are contributing across various sectors, and encouraged the younger generation to pursue diverse career paths. The celebration featured a march past by students, while the head teacher highlighted the institution’s 75-year journey and achievements. The programme also included an award ceremony, during which the minister distributed prizes to deserving recipients.
