The Hynniewtrep Youths’ Council – East Jaintia Hills District (HYC-EJH) met with the Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Shri Sniawbhalang Dhar, to submit a memorandum calling for the urgent establishment of a dedicated Police Outpost at Bataw Area.

Currently, Bataw, along with surrounding villages such as Lakadong, Lama, and Borkhat, falls under the jurisdiction of the Lad Rymbai Police Outpost under Khliehriat Police Station. The HYC delegation highlighted that this existing setup is increasingly inadequate due to the vast geographical distance and growing population in the region.

Key concerns raised during the meeting include:

• Response Delays: The significant distance between Lad Rymbai Police Outpost and Bataw delays crucial police response times during emergencies, law and order issues, and accidents.

• Overburdened Personnel: The limited force at Lad Rymbai is currently spread too thin across an extensive area, hampering efficient policing in remote border villages.

• Strategic Infrastructure: Establishing a dedicated post at Bataw is critical for monitoring key transit routes, particularly given the Shillong-Silchar Speed Corridor passing through these communities.

In response to the demands, the Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister assured the council that the State Government will examine the matter on priority and take the necessary steps to sanction the required infrastructure and personnel, thereby strengthening law and order, boosting public confidence, and ensuring overall safety in the region.
