The Laitlyngkot-Lyngkyrdem stretch of the Shillong-Dawki Road (NH 206), covering Chainage Kms 24+00 to 37+00, will be reopened for vehicular traffic from August 10, 2026.

The decision follows a joint inspection conducted on August 8 by officials from the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), the Executive Engineer of PWD (Roads), Pynursla Division, and other officials.

However, the existing night closure will remain in force. All vehicles will be prohibited from using the stretch between 10:00 PM and 5:00 AM. Commuters have been urged to strictly follow the notified timings and directions issued by the administration.

The administration has advised commuters to exercise extreme caution due to the ongoing monsoon season and the increased risk of landslides, rockfalls and road instability. People have also been advised to avoid non-essential travel during heavy rainfall, immediately after rainfall and during night-time hours.

Emergency vehicles, including ambulances, fire service vehicles and police vehicles, may be permitted to pass during the closure period, subject to a safety assessment by on-site authorities. For emergencies, commuters may contact Pynursla Police Station at 9862251116.

The administration has appealed to the public to cooperate with the traffic regulations being enforced for public safety and to facilitate the ongoing road construction works.
