The Government of Meghalaya finalized its plan of action for the observance of Har Ghar Tiranga 2026, at a State-level Coordination Meeting held under the Chairmanship of the Secretary, Community & Rural Development Department, at Committee Room II, Main Secretariat, Shillong. The campaign will be observed across the State from 9th to 17th August 2026 and will this year also commemorate the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, with the singing of Vande Mataram proposed to be incorporated into suitable programmes during the period.
Chief Minister to Unfurl National Flag on 14th August
As part of the State-level observance, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Meghalaya is proposed to unfurl the National Flag on 14th August 2026, during the National Handloom Day programme to be held at RiSai, Ri-Bhoi District, organized by the Directorate of Sericulture & Weaving, Department of Textiles. Special Eri silk National Flags are being arranged for the occasion. The State-level launch of the campaign coincided with National Handloom Day observed on the 7th August, 2026, inaugurated by the Hon’ble Minister for Textiles.
Whole-of-Government Participation
The meeting was attended by senior representatives from the Police Department, School Education & Literacy, Tourism, Textiles, Sports & Youth Affairs, Prosecution, Forensic Sciences, Information & Public Relations, Co-operation, Commerce & Industries, and Arts & Culture, among others, along with the Chief Operating Officer of the Meghalaya State Rural Livelihoods Society (MSRLS), the Nodal Agency coordinating the campaign at the State level. All Departments have been asked to submit their activity plans for the 9th–17th August period and to hoist the National Flag at their offices and institutions in accordance with the Flag Code of India.
Selfie with Tiranga, and Convergence with Major Events
Citizens are encouraged to take part in the “Selfie with Tiranga” digital campaign at harghartiranga.com, which this year will also feature the lyrics of Vande Mataram. All Departments were advised to set up Tiranga Selfie Points at their premises, and daily photographs and short videos of activities to be captured. The campaign will converge with major State events, including the Independence Day celebrations at Lok Bhavan on 15th August.
Community Mobilization and Flag Availability
The Community & Rural Development Department and MSRLS, together with District and Block-level functionaries, will mobilise Self-Help Groups, Village Employment Councils, Village Health Committees, Village Organisations, Cluster-Level Federations and other Community-Based Organisations to encourage household-level participation, including promotion of flag-stitching through SHGs and USHA Silai units. Existing stocks of National Flags will be utilised for the campaign, and the public has been encouraged to procure flags through Self Help Groups and local vendors, in line with the Flag Code of India.
Call to Citizens
The Government appeals to the citizens of Meghalaya to hoist the National Flag at their homes, participate enthusiastically in local activities, and share their patriotic moments on the Har Ghar Tiranga portal, in the spirit of national unity and pride as the campaign commemorates 150 years of Vande Mataram.
